1907 Studebaker Mail Wagon
This horse-drawn mail wagon was used by A.F. Hess from 1907 to 1917 to deliver the mail on Route 1 in the Lyons area for the U.S. Post Office’s Rural Free Delivery Service. Prior to this service residents had to travel into town to pick up their mail from the post office. After spending decades in storage, the mail wagon is now the centerpiece of an exhibit on the postal history of Lyons.

Lyons-St. Vrain Creamery
Established in 1914 and operating until about 1927 the Lyons-St. Vrain Creamery was instrumental in creating a thriving dairy industry in the area. 

Built of Stone
This exhibit explores the geological history of the Lyons area’s iconic red sandstone layer. Photographs, documents, and artifacts illustrate the early history of the sandstone quarry industry in the Lyons area. Test your geologic knowledge with our rock sorting challenge.

The Colt Family in Lyons

This virtual exhibit follows the Colt family from New York to Colorado, eventually leading to the building of Trail Ridge Road.

Mickey L. Hawkins 
A member of the Lyons High School Class of 1969, he was killed in action in Vietnam on January 6, 1970. Included in the exhibit are the medals Hawkins was awarded for his service in the Marines, the letter of condolence from President Richard M. Nixon, and color photographs of him in Vietnam that he sent to his family.

Forty Years Forty Artifacts

All Aboard! Railroads in Lyons
It wasn't long after the founding of Lyons in 1881 that the Denver, Utah & Pacific Railroad arrived in Lyons. The exhibit traces the history of the railroads from 1885, to the closing of the depot in 1960, and the final special excursion train from Lyons in 1962 with objects photographs, and ephemera.

State Bank of Lyons
​The history of banking in Lyons, 1903 to the present, is told through photographs, artifacts, and documents alongside the original teller cage from the State Bank of Lyons which operated from 1917 to 1933.

​Lyons Newspapers: A History
Traces the history of Lyons newspapers from 1890 to the present. Includes an interactive photo booth and hands-on activities including typing your news of the day on an electric typewriter, building a front page jigsaw puzzle, or creating your own front page of a newspaper. 

Swift/Smith/Bohn Family Photographs and memorabilia from the family including the WWII diary of Charles P. Swift begun on December 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor.

The Flood of 2013
Photographs, videos, newspapers, and objects from the September 12-18, 2013 flood and recovery.

First Peoples of the Lyons Area
History of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes who inhabited the Lyons area prior to the arrival of settlers and town builders.
